London Weekend Breaks - what to see this winter

There are lots of fun things to choose from when you are planning  London weekend breaks. Now that I live in the capital I'm going to share a few of  my favourite ones here.
Obviously, you can go and see a show. The West End is awash with great musicals and the moment and it's just the right time of year for  theatre breaks in London. The best way to do it is probably to book the whole package online, so you get your train, show tickets, hotel and often even dinner thrown in.  If you can stretch  to two nights it's usually much better value and you might even fit in an extra show, or, at this time of year, (or any other I hear you cry!) the London shops!
Then there are all the other attractions. I'm going to concentrate on my 'must sees' for this year, rather than describe the usual sites. You can find them in any guide book so I'm going to concentrate on what's unique to the next few months.

Exhibitions

Arachnaphobics beware - Maman is back in London and this time she's outside!
11 October 2007  –  20 January 2008 Tate Modern London
The first major survey since 1995 of the work of Louise Bourgeois (b.1911). The exhibition will provide an unprecedented opportunity to reassess her work.
Even if you don't like modern art this giant spider is well worth seeing.
Tutankhamun is back too
At the 02 from November 15th
Thirty years ago the Tutankhamun exhibition attracted over 1.6 million visitors. The exhibition will be in the O2  (that's the Dome to the rest of us!). Billed as Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs there will be even more treasures on show. If you can get to the  opening weekend (15 November) there are all kinds of exciting activities but it's bound to be really busy. Might be better to let it settle down for a couple of weeks and then go. Tickets aren't cheap but the only other way to see this stuff is to go to Egypt!
Henry Moore at Kew Gardens
If you have got some spare time and the weather is good go along to Kew and see the works of Henry Moore in a fabulous setting. Children seem to instinctively love these sculptures but many adults aren't so sure. Seeing them in these surroundings though makes a huge difference. Well worth the effort.

So those are a few of my favourite things to do on London weekend breaks   this winter. If you need to book tickets for your package break then I suggest using a specialist web site as they get deals that make their prices hard to beat.
