An ideal for choice for theatre breaks in London is an evening of the nostalgic music of Abba combined with the story of one woman's journey to find her father the night before her own wedding. Set on a Greek island the story brings back for the first time in twenty years  three men, each of whom might be the father of the bride.

The show was written by Abba's Bjorn and Benny and it is the music that really makes it. For some reason none of us can resist Abba, even those of us who wouldn't have been caught dead listening to them back in the day find ourselves occasionally humming Dancing Queen. The show has all the ones I remember and I was amazed how many of the words I still know!  How many of these do you recognise?

The show has lots of high energy dancing as well and as for the costumes? Well let's just say that it was the decade that style forgot! The costume designers have had lots of fun with that.
Somehow the music that was around when we were in our late teens has a special potency for us even if we loathed it at the time. So even if you weren't an Abba fan it's worth revisiting, if only for one night!

The other thing that surprised me was that tentative questioning of the younger generation brought a very positive response. So maybe it works even if you weren't born the first time this music was around.

The show is on in The Prince of Wales Theatre on Coventry Street, just off Leicester Square. Theatre breaks in London can be made or spoiled by a good, convenient hotel so I'm going to start a new section for hotels next week
